Problem statement

EXTENSIVE USE OF SINGLE USE PLASTIC PRODUCTS

Restaurant businesses are the main target of the project because they extensively use non-compostable single use plastic products, especially in delivery and take-away services. These products fall within the scope of the European Single Use Plastics Directive and they include cutlery, plates, straws, beverage stirrers and all containers made of expanded polystyrene, including glasses and cups.

QUALITY OF SORTED WASTE COLLECTION

Restaurant businesses can also improve the quality of their sorted waste collection, which is a fundamental requirement for the achievement of the European recycling targets for municipal waste, that are set at 55% in weight by 2025, 60% by 2030 and 65% by 2035.

WHO DOES THE PROJECT TARGET?

“Really eth(n)ic” mainly targets “ethnic” restaurant businesses – meaning that they serve non-Italian food and are owned or managed by people whose first language is not Italian – with the aim of experimenting language and intercultural mediation in an important economic sector that is strongly related to sustainability issues.
